Did you know that melt-blown fabric is the core material of face masks? The KINGFA KN95 face mask, for example, offers five protective layers including two polypropylene non-woven layers, two melt-blown filter cloths, and one non-woven cotton middle layer.
To give you an idea of why melt-blown fabric is such an integral part of quality face masks, let’s quickly take a look at the three main properties of melt-blown cloth.
The first is filtration efficiency. This is the ability of face masks to filter out target pollutants. Filtration efficiency is divided into Particle Filtration Efficiency (PFE) and Bacteria Filtration Efficiency (BFE). The Particle Filtration Efficiency of melt-blown fabric generally reaches 90% and can filter out most bacteria.
Ventilation resistance is the second property of melt-blown cloth. This represents the degree of breathability of melt-blown cloth. A good face mask should have high filtration efficiency and low ventilation resistance (high breathability).
The last property is resistance to charge attenuation. In simple terms, charge attenuation is the aging of melt-blown fabric.
